Don’t Repair Clothes with Duct Tape

Don’t Repair Clothes with Duct Tape

Duct tape might seem like a cheap, easy fix for clothing and outdoor gear—but in reality, it’s an ugly, subpar way to patch up holes and tears.

We say this from experience. NoSo founder and CEO Kelli Jones tore her Patagonia Fitz Roy jacket on a barbed-wire fence. In a pinch, Kelli tried to fix her brand-new (not to mention expensive) jacket with a piece of duct tape. While it kinda-sorta worked, the duct tape was an eyesore on her once-pristine jacket. Not to mention that duct tape is stiff, inflexible, and rough to the touch.

Duct tape has lots of uses, but it’s honestly not the right tool to fix clothes or outdoor gear. NoSo Patches are a much better option. These repair patches are fabric, so they work well with clothing—as well as popular gear like backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, and the like.

This is a big win for NoSo Patches compared to duct tape. Since our PSA-free fabric repair patches are flexible (rather than thick and stiff), it’s easier to move around in your clothing (which is crucial for your outdoor adventuring), as well as fold (think stowing your sleeping bag or tent).

Our patches are also smooth, soft, or delightfully textured. Depending on the type of fabric patches you choose, you can benefit from the fuzzy wool feeling, moisture-wicking PolarTec or ThermalRib, stylish denim look, or whatever best matches your style or functionality.

Better still, NoSo Patches are waterproof, washable, and don’t have that nasty residue that old duct tape leaves behind. Yuck!

Yes, duct tape is cheap. But it also looks cheap. NoSo Patches are designed for functionality and flair—turning your torn or ripped gear into a fully functional masterpiece of personal expression. Plus, you’re supporting a small business with a deep commitment to sustainability and keeping textiles out of landfills.

Plus, NoSo Patches are simple to apply, even while on the go! Here’s how to apply a NoSo Patch:

  1. Prep and clean the damaged area. Trim any loose fibers and wipe down the area of dirt and grime, if necessary.
  2. Peel it and stick it, just like a sticker! Smooth it from the center to the edges. If it’s a really big hole, you can sandwich the patches on either side of the damaged area.
  3. Apply heat for a permanent fix. Use a hairdryer for 30 seconds or tumble dry on low for 15 minutes. On the go? No worries. You can wait to apply heat later—or simply leave the patch in direct sunlight on a hot day.
