Let’s Innovate: Fabric Offerings at NoSo Patches

NoSo never stops innovating. It’s in our DNA. From our very first repair patch, we revolutionized the way people repair their outdoor clothing and gear. Now, we boast thousands of unique designs that not only repair your favorite gear, but also let you express yourself.

Our commitment to offering the best repair patches extends to the types of fabrics we use. This is important for a few reasons:

  • It lets consumers buy patches that match the material they want to repair. This is a big win for folks who want to make sure their gear is as good as new; even after some wear and tear.
  • It lets consumers mix and match fabrics. You got personality, you got style. Plus, a textured patch on your favorite jacket can act as your personal fidget toy.
  • It’s a clever way for brands to upcycle their deadstock fabrics. Eco-conscious brands love the opportunity to upcycle fabric scraps and reduce waste.

It’s all about giving consumers and brands the joy of diverse fabric offerings. So, check out our current fabric offerings below.

Polartec Fleece Patches

Outdoor clothing is supposed to keep you warm, dry, and adventure-ready. All that goes away when you have a hole in your gear. That once trusty jacket lets cold wind and moisture seep in, chilling you to the bone. Applying a NoSo Patch in three easy steps—peel, stick, and heat for permanent application—fixes that issue fast.

When it comes to keeping warm, Polartec fleece is a wonderful material. In fact, we use three different Polartec fleeces: MicroFleece, Thermal Rib, and PowerGrid. Each of these fabrics has its unique attributes. Let’s explore these one by one.

MicroFleece NoSo patches are made from a lightweight, synthetic polyester fabric designed to insulate. These patches have a slightly raised texture and are soft to the touch. They work very well on fleece and other synthetic fabrics. Currently, we offer three colors of MicroFleece patches: Strawberry, Royal Blue, and Marine.

Thermal Rib patches are designed for greater breathability and warmth-to-weight ratio. For this reason, it’s excellent for baselayers. The ribbed fabric promotes moisture wicking, making it ideal for high-energy activities like hiking—and is certainly more breathable than traditional fleeces. NoSo Thermal Rib patches are available in Isle, Iceberg, and Berry colors.

Last but not least is PowerGrid fleece patches. These brilliant patches are designed to optimize and regulate body temperature. The grid construction isn’t just for looks. It’s built from multi-knit components that promote moisture wicking and evaporation. The grid is also good for reducing bulk, which means it’s easy to pack down when on the trail. We offer two colors for the PowerGrid fleece patches: Fog and Pitch.

Denim Patches

From the rugged pair of jeans that go with you everywhere to the denim vest that makes you look like a rock star, denim is a classic fabric for a reason.

Our Denim NoSo Patches are made from standard denim and come in three color options. These Denim patches add some flair to your puffy jacket, ski pants, or backpack.

Although the patch itself is denim, our repair patches stick best on synthetic materials. Jean fabrics tend to fray, stretch, and generally don’t hold adhesives very well.

So, your best option is to use these denim patches to add a pop of color and texture to your synthetic wardrobe rather than your dungarees.

Ripstop Patches

NoSo customers choose our patches because they are functional, attractive, and just feel right. This is a much better option than duct tape which is inflexible, ugly, and unpleasant to the touch. One of our popular fabric types—for all the right reasons—is Ripstop.

Ripstop is made up of either polyester or nylon. This synthetic fabric is woven at specific intervals to create improved durability and mitigate tearing. But what does that mean to the average person? It means that NoSo Ripstop patches are smooth to the touch and durable; time after time, and adventure after adventure.

Our Ripstop patches come in lots of shapes and several solid, slightly opaque colors: Red Heart, Black X, Tan Circle, and six Patchdazzle varieties.

Merino Wool Patches

Thick, fuzzy, and oh so warm—Merino Wool comes from merino sheep. What makes this specialty wool all the more incredible is its breathability and moisture-wicking capabilities. In other words, it keeps you warm without letting you get soggy from sweat or steam. Cool stuff, right?

Merino Wool is often used to line the inside of gloves, boots, and hoods. It’s also a popular fabric for base layers.

Since it’s so soft, warm, and breathable, some NoSo customers use our Merino Wool patches to cover holes and tears in sleeping bags or on the inside of jackets, pants, and the like. Then again, everyone has their own patching preferences—which is why some buyers like to put it on the outside of their gear. With a fun texture and a lot of character, these Merino Wool patches make a statement!

Merino Wool patches come in several colors and shapes, including Black Bandage, Blue Snowflake, and Dusty Rose Heart.

PFAS-Free Fabric Patches

When you are as passionate about nature, outdoor adventures, and conservation as we are, you make choices that help the planet. Sometimes those choices are on the consumer side, and sometimes on the business side. At NoSo, we believe the best outcomes happen when both sides work together to make planet-conscious decisions. That’s why we offer PFAS-free fabric patches.

PFAS are polyfluoroalkyl substances. These are synthetic chemicals used—in the apparel industry—to provide water-resistant treatments to clothing and gear. That’s pretty nifty in theory, but in practice, it can negatively impact the environment in two ways: Manufacturing practices and consumer practices.

Let’s talk production first. Historically, PFAS fabric treatments occur at the mills—where the bolts of raw, synthetic fabrics (like nylon, polyester, and laminates) are created before being cut and sewn into garments. This means that when scraps and deadstock are thrown away, the bits of fabric are already PFAS-treated. These materials do not break down in landfills, posing significant detriments to the environment.

Which brings us to the second way PFAS harms the planet. Eventually, our outdoor gear reaches the end of its lifecycle. And most people just throw it away, which means it ends up in a landfill. That same issue rears its ugly head, namely that these PFAS-treated fabrics won’t decompose. That’s one of the reasons we offer our patches to extend the life of outdoor gear, thus reducing this planet-unfriendly waste.

NoSo is proudly certified as PFAS-free through Bureau Veritas.
